EANx (Nitrox) Diver

What are benefits of Nitrox Diving and who should take the EANX (Nitrox) Diver class?

Diving with Nitrox is simple to learn and provides benefits to all divers.  It is not complicated and not “just for technical divers”.  Nitrox is just regular air with extra oxygen added to it (Oxygen Enriched Air).  When the air you breathe during your dive has more oxygen and therefore less nitrogen, less nitrogen is absorbed into your bloodstream during your dive and there is less need for the off-gassing of nitrogen, which means:
•       Longer dives, giving you more time to enjoy the exciting underwater world that you became certified to see
•       Safer diving
•       Shorter  surface intervals
•       Less decompression stress on your body and therefore less fatigue

The Nitrox course is a hands-on, comprehensive program that will train you to safely dive with enriched air mixtures up to 40% oxygen.  During this class you will learn:
•       The history and development of Nitrox
•       Oxygen limits
•       Equivalent Air Depth formula
•       Mathematical principles of gas mixtures
•       Mixture application and gas analysis
•       Practical diving applications and safety issues.

The Class

Each class consists of either two 4-hour sessions or one 8-hour classroom session. Saturday classes begin promptly at 10 am and evening classes start at 7pm. You will need to bring a notebook, pen, and calculator as well as your textbook packet to class.

The Openwater Dives

After completing all of the classroom work, you will need to complete 2 repetitive Nitrox Scuba dives in an open water environment. These dives can be done anywhere.  You can complete the dives with us at Dutch Springs, you can travel with us and do your dives in a warmer environment, or you can do your dives during one of our many New Jersey wreck dives during the summer.

The Nitrox dives can also be combined with dives for any other certification program we offer.  It is most often combined with either the Scuba Diver Certification or the Advanced Scuba Diver, but it can also be added to a class such as Wreck Diver or Drysuit Diver.

Student must provide all equipment for their open water dives suitable for the environment. Equipment must include a BCD, regulator, alternate air source, SPG, Bottom Timer, Depth Gauge, Exposure Suit, Submersible Dive Tables or Dive Computer. All of these items are available for rental from Neptune’s Realm Scuba Center.
